Probably no other river in the world sees as many buildings of a religious nature while on its way to the ocean as the Lancang-Mekong River. The numerous altars, temples and pagodas to be seen on both sides of the river play an important part in both the spiritual world and everyday life of the local people. In this program we will observe daily activities in temples, observe the Buddhist architecture and decorative art inside and around them, feel the wonder of Myanmar’s ten-thousand pagoda city, witness a coming-of-age ceremony, visit a religious school, see the collection and preservation of scriptures written on leaves, and enter one of the most sacred places of Tibetan Buddhism, all found in areas nourished by the great Lancang-Mekong River.
