Its called Jerash or Gerasa and is considered one of the most important and best preserved Roman cities in the Near East. It was a city of the Decapolis which flourished in the first century AD and thrived by trade.
The town was at one time called " Antioch on the Chrysorrhoas," meaning " Golden River. One can still wander through its streets and magnificent monuments and see them as they were in its heyday, untouched except by the hand of time.
Upon arriving at the theater, tourists are received warmly with local music played by the folklore band. Enjoying all of this magnificent history and rich background that made it the focal city of many civilizations through the different ages put Jerash well at the top of tourists visiting list. It is an experience that can never be forgotten.
From many miles away and on top of the green hills stand the strategic Qalat er-Rabad, or Ajloun Castle as it is locally known.
The castle is considered today one of the best preserved and most complete examples of Medieval Arab-Islamic military architecture.
