This video is about the construction of El Portal. The adobe style of construction was used to build El Portal. Adobe shows what life is, improvement. Arts and crafts happened around the turn of the century so the year 1910 was the architectures year and El Portal reflects that. Every inch of the building was done by human hands. El Portal sits in the heart of Sedona's pedestrian area so it has an enclosed private court yard. A pond is located in the courtyard and there is an actual passage way in the building named Portal. The 1st and 2nd units of the building were designed to be 20 years older than the rest of the building. The cabin style they chose was typical in the arts and crafts movement. There are many different styles of building and decorating in El Portal. Rock from the local area was used to build the fireplace, there is a 20 inch thick wall in the building, adobe construction is known for its thermal qualities. The sun hits the wall and it takes 12hrs for the BTU to get through the wall, as the evening cools the BTU will reverse and go the other way this keeps the temperature at 65 degrees. Room number 4 of the El Portal is truly arts and crafts, room number 3 is a garden room, and all the bathrooms are different and spectacular in their own way. El Portal is about taking a trip back in time. Granite counter tops, superior tile design showers with tile vaulted ceilings that canopy over marble wall, hot air heated tubs, etc. Room number 12 is the governor’s suite with enough room for two couples. Adobe structures go back to North Africa. The charms of this arts and crafts hacienda are continued throughout the interiors of El Portal.
