Feel The Excitement Of Fords, Chevrolets And Other American Mechanical Marvels!

The 1950s were golden years for most of the American people. World War II was behind them, the economy was chugging along at a good clip and the suburbs were being born. Suburbia – while a perfect oasis of peace and tranquillity for the post war middle class, also led to the need for new marketing strategies and products.

This 2-DVD Set Has Classic Cars And Classic

Watch The Legendary Jimmy Stewart Sell Chevrolets!

Feel The Excitement Of Fords, Chevrolets
And Other American Mechanical Marvels!

These DVDs are a must have!

When most people lived in cities, cars were considered luxury items. But the suburbs ensured that most families needed to have a car – simply to get to work! Plus, movie houses – long a staple of automobile advertising were losing their influence to the new suburban joy toy – television! Advertisers responded and created fascinating aggressive advertisements to put people behind the wheel of these Detroit masterpieces!

Now for the first time ever we have assembled a collection of the flashiest ads selling the most beautiful American cards produced in the 1950s!

If you are a marketing student, an automobile enthusiast or a lover of classic films you need to own The History of Advertising – Automobiles 1950 to 1960!

This 2-DVD set depicts classic advertisement films and examples of automobile centric stories from the 1950s. It includes classic "Capitalistic Realist" dramas showing the manufacture of cars from foundry to finished vehicle. Also features examples of a day in the life of automobile workers in the U.S. while attempting to convince them that their own fortunes were inexorably linked to the fortunes of the company.

Included here among others you will find a clip on how the oil industry is central to the American economy and a delightful film showing socialisation through driver education at a tender age in Phoenix and a promotional clip for the controversial Chevrolet Corvair.

A few of those films were designed to promote corporate citizenship rather than any specific model of automobile. While it forcefully demonstrates how central automobile manufacturing was to the American economy it even more strikingly shows the effects of the automobile on our landscape.

"This is the place to get your DVDs. You can’t ask for more! Extremely Professional, Extremely Reliable and Extremely Fast. A++" Thanks,
-Derrick Evans -- Tampa, FL

Not Just Television Ads – We Have Included
The Best Theatrical Advertisements As Well!

By the 1960s car makers would abandon the practice of advertising their cars at movie theatres. Still in the early 1950s television was still an untested medium. So many automakers continued to create theatrical shorts to sell their steel marvels.

On this 2-DVD set you will get to see some of the last theatrical advertising shorts ever created! Once television took over there was not turning back. By including these incredible theatrical shorts you will be able to see exactly how television changed the face of advertising and marketing forever!

Just like today advertisers understood in the 1950s that celebrities could be used to endorse their products and make people want to buy! That is why the great admen of the day often employed some of the most famous movie stars in the world. On this two DVD set you will see a lot of famous faces including – Jimmy Stewart and Dinah Shore!

This 2-DVD Set Is A Great Visual Reference
And Study Guide For Any Historical Buff or Student!

Inside you will find hours of entertaining footage. Because television was a new medium advertising men had to try many different approaches before they got their formula down pat.

"I showed these DVDs to my advertising professor! He couldn’t believe it! All of the supposedly "modern" advertising methods we were learning were on display here – back in the 1950s! Wow! This taught me a lot!"
- Jonathan Champlovier – London, UK

You can see exactly how the television advertising principals that are still used today were developed! Here is a complete list fo the films included in this incredible 2-DVD set!

Roads to Romance: Coral Gables

The Corvair in Action

A Wonderful New World of Fords
This Ford commercial links the new compact cars to futurism and the space frontier. With the three Ford model lines shown here together, in the same place and in the same color, it’s easy to see how the marketing of American cars worked. With each increasing price point, you got more chrome, more power accessories, and more suggestion of status and buying power. Buy a Falcon, and you get those concave, sculpted sides, raked wheel arches and round jet-exhaust taillights. But move up to the Galaxie (a name that blends the Space Age world of satellites with that faux- French misspelling of the car’s name) and you get the same shape, only CHROMED. And choose the "world’s most-wanted car", the Thunderbird, and you’ve just bought the "dream car" of the whole range. But the sheet metal and the underlying mechanicals stayed the same!

A Wonderful New World of Fords

A Touch of Magic
This General Motors 1961 advertisement presents new cars, appliances and futuristic ideas at their most banal. Nuveena and her beau dance a tribute to medieval chivalry, but when the audience shows up, they actually look embarrassed. The time shifts to the present and the couple displays the 1961 GM cars. Then they get married, move into a new house and have a housewarming party. Instead of fixing all the food by pushing a few magic buttons in the Kitchen of Tomorrow, Nuveena sends her beau into the Kitchen of Today to do all the cooking while she gets on the phone and invites all the guests. The guests turn out to be all invisible imaginary friends, though they have real cars and eat all the real food. Imagine that!
