The rise of American Economic Power after World War II
When France fell at the beginning of the war, pacifism was no longer an option. American citizens, young and old, suddenly decided to take a proactive stand. Once the United States was fully committed to the war in December of 1941, patriotism soared in American society. Citizens willingly carried out blackout and civil defense drills;recycled metals, paper, and even cooking fats;worked longer hours, and agreed to have fewer consumer goods and comforts in an effort to demonstrate their strong support for the war. This set of DVDs examines the domestic side of World War II and the changes that took place in American society during the war.
