Running Time: 58 Minutes
MPAA Ratings: Approved
"Boxing has a charm all its own and director Wallace Fox has done a marvelous job of capturing some of it in this thrilling and romantic narrative. Armida’s portrayal of a husky, age-and-experience toughened club singer has a true-life quality about it. Her Mexican accent and mannerisms provide some amusing moments amidst a tense drama. This classic feature film provides a brief yet fascinating peek into the world of boxing - the complex life of boxers and the influence of powerful promoters on the sport. Anthony Caruso and Terry Frost look their parts as professional middleweight boxers, and the bouts are captured in a realistic and imaginative manner. The unpredictable twist at the end leaves you suitably impressed with Wallace Fox’s talents as director. This fascinating feature film from A2ZCDS provides a rare ringside view of the lives of boxers in a manner that is seldom witnessed on the screen.
''Only ‘Raging Bull’ comes close to the realism and emotional undercurrents of ‘The Girl from Monterey’. This amazing old movie just proves that one CAN combine convincing ring action with intelligent acting. If A2ZCDS has anything else like this to offer, I’m a willing buyer''

"The fights are good enough to satisfy any purist of pugilism (I happen to be one). With ‘The Girl from Monterey’ I rediscovered my passion for old feature films, which had been smothered by contemporary pulp. Watch this one to know where ‘Rocky’ fails."
