Driftwood Productions has produced more than 40 hours of documentary programming on history, travel, science and lifestyle topics. Driftwood specializes in documentary production for public television, cable, syndication, home video and international distribution.
John Grant started Driftwood Productions in 1995. He creates and executive produces Driftwood’s projects, while producing and directing many of the individual programs. He also serves as executive producer for other US and international coproductions.
Grant has written six companion books to his television series. He coauthored West Point, Legendary Lighthouses, Legendary Lighthouses II, and Window to the Sea and wrote Great American Rail Journeys, winner of a Gold Award in the 2001 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, and Staying at a Lighthouse.
In addition to Driftwood Productions, Grant serves as Chief Program Officer at WNED-TV in Buffalo, New York where he is responsible for the development, management, and production of television projects. He is also a production consultant for Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) in Portland, Oregon.
From 1990-95, Grant was senior vice president of programming at PBS in Alexandria, Virginia where he was responsible for the day-to-day management of the PBS National Program Service, including the commissioning of national and international productions, acquiring programming, and creating the PBS primetime schedule. Grant spent 16 years at WPSX-TV at Penn State University, where served in a variety of programming, development, production and management positions, including the last four years as general manager.
