The Route of the Southwest Chief takes you on-board on of the last legendary trains. Amtrak's Southwest Chief runs from Chicago to Los Angeles. Enjoy the view as America’s wonderful scenery unfolds in front of you. The chief works its way past Chicago’s spectacular skyline, farm fields, the Great Plains, southern Rocky Mountains and passes through the Great southwest.

You will experience breathtaking views from the sightseeing lounge, enjoy dinner in the dinner, and slumber inn your cozy sleeping car. We bring you the best scenery that America has to offer;including views from on-board, the train passing by, and inside the locomotive cab.

Along the way stop and visit several historic and scenic railroad attractions including the Abilene &Smoky Valley Railroad (with a visit to the famous Dwight D. Eisenhower Museum), historic Dodge City the renowned Cumbres &Toltec steam railroad in Colorado, the charming Santa Fe Southern Railway in New Mexico, Arizona’s incredible Verde Canyon Railroad, and California's Orange Empire Railway Museum and historic Knott's Berry Farm Railroad. You’re even pampered with a visit to the luxurious American Orient Express cruise train! And, of course, no trip on the southwest chief would be complete without paying a visit to the Grand Canyon!
