The shining white Basilica of Sacre-Coeur towers above Montmartre and across the famous Parisienne art district of the same name. It is located on a hill that is thirty metres high and provides a good view of both Paris and the River Seine. The magnificent Basilica on top of Montmartre Hill can be seen for miles and is synonymous with Paris. Beneath Sacre Coeur is the former winegrowers´ village of Montmartre that, at the end of the 19th century, attracted several important artists.
