In 221 BC, Qin Shi Huang unified China and became China’s first emperor. By the time of the reign of the Han emperor Gaozu, 100 years later, a multi-ethnic society had been muted, dominated by the Han ethnic group. Han culture created a solid foundation on which China could establish its reputation in the ancient world as a powerful nation that was politically and culturally advanced. Inside the united country the various ethnic groups were freed to give expression to their creativity. A fruit of this ethnic harmony of Qin Shi Huang culture, the achievements of which have been a source of east Asian pride ever since. In this program of Chinese Civilizations we learn about the undertaking of uniting all of China’s ethnic groups into a single state.
Chinese Civilizations sets out to illustrate the evolution of Chinese Civilization through an investigation of archeological discoveries, historical sites and cultural relics. In the course of this investigation, it will reflect the enduring desire for self-improvement and social commitment that are a feature of the Chinese nation.
