Known as the ‘Jewel of the West’, Lake Powell is the second largest reservoir in the USA, took 17 years to build and was completed in 1964. This region is known as ‘The Wonderland of America’ and its extensive horizons, amazingly deep canyons and eternal skies have frequently been depicted in literature, film and advertisements, as it is the epitome of wilderness, freedom and adventure, and turns fantasy into reality. The winding journey on the deep blue lake stops in the middle of a splendidly colored array of stone, reddish-brown Navajo Sandstone, white Entrada Sandstone and other colored stones and rocks that indicate the ancient geology of the landscape. Rainbow Bridge is an almost circular stone rainbow, 88 metres high and 84 metres wide, everyone who witnesses these natural formations cannot help but be overwhelmed by their grand and majestic proportions, so massive that they defy the imagination. The wonders of a man-made reservoir and the amazing result of erosion are of spectacular contrast in this glorious area of the United States.
